Can I download it to the same HDD my Windows 10 is on and locate it with VirtualBox?Ģ.) Since Windows XP is no longer supported could it leave my system vulnerable even through the virtual workstation? If I 'shut down' the session when I am done will it discontinue any vulnerability?ģ.) Do you guys think it will function just like any other operating system? As far as input lag, screen tearing and other similar issues related to virtual workstations?Ĥ.) When I allocate RAM, disk space, and other resources for the session is that just the maximum it will allow the system to utilize? After I 'shut down' the session will I get those resources back until I start it again?ĥ. ![]() I thinking maybe I could get them to run by loading Windows XP onto VirtualBox. I have a couple old games that I can no longer modify to work with the latest versions of Windows. However, as I mentioned I am not thoroughly educated on the subject. I think it is a cool concept so want would like to experiment with it a little bit. scottgus1 Site Moderator Posts: 15078 Joined: 30.Hey guys I just downloaded VirtualBox and just learning how virtual workstations operate in general. If you don't need or use 3D acceleration, 6.1.x will be fine. ![]() If you have to run 3D acceleration in XP, stick with 6.0.x (6.0.14 was very stable in my opinion, my workstation host still uses it.) and ignore/dismiss the advisory popup that VboxVGA is going to be supplanted by VboxSVGA. So in 6.1.x they changed 3D to plug the hole, but 3D is now only available in Windows 7 and later. Alternatively, you can grab them from the Microsoft Update Catalog: Windows XP Service Pack 1, Express ( download). 3D acceleration had a security hole big enough to drive an Australian road train through. All you have to do is choose Settings and create a half-dozen virtual drives, then mount each one to an ISO on the host machine. There is another issue you might run into if you run 3D acceleration in XP. The 'guest' is the virtual machine, the 'host' is the physical PC. You should have no trouble on this score. I saw this note, "Please also use version 5.2 if you still need support for 32-bit hosts MNUser wrote:I do run 32 bit Windows XP guests. ![]()
